Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at the Lizha Cattle Farm, Macala, Riwoqê, Qamdo, Tibet. It was named by the No. 3 Regional Geological Survey Party, Sichuan Bureau of Geology in 1974.


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. Pure carbonate rock deposits. Lower part is dominated by light yellow and gray-white thick-bedded to massive compact limestone, crystalline limestone and bioclastic limestone, sometimes intercalated with gray and dark-gray compact limestone as well as crystalline limestone and clayey limestone, and locally interbedded with black calcareous shale and siltstone; 178.2 m thick. Upper part consists of gray-white thick-bedded to massive compact limestone with pisolitic texture, bioclastic limestone and fine-crystalline limestone, intercalated with minor chert lumps or bands; thickness >210 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformably over the Wuqu Fm in the type section. Elsewhere overlies the Aoqu Fm. Coeval with the Ebana Fm marl.

Upper contact

Unknown: The Top is unexposed in the type section. Elsewhere, it is disconformably overlain by the Mangcu Fm (Kungurian of upper-Lower Permian)

Regional extent

Widespread in eastern Tibet and western Sichuan: Distributed along Riwoqê of Qamdo, Qingnidong and Longbanglong of Jomda, and Longmenshan of Sichuan.

Fossils

Lower part contains Fusulinids Triticites subashiensis, T. cf. stuchenbergi, Eoparafusulina bella, Hemifusulina sp., Rugosofusulina sp. and Schwagerina sp., Brachiopods Pseudoendothyra sp. and Pisolina sp., corals Nephelophyllum riwoqueense and Antheria pulchra. Upper part is rich in Fusulinids Pseudoschwagerina tinvenkiangi, Hemifusulina sinensis, H. ordinata, Pseudofusulina cf. copiosa and Paraschwagerina ishimbajica.
